AARP 2019 challenge will inspire you to get walking!


Star LaMorte Wojciak, 68, was quick to join AARP’s Fit & Fun Health Challenge in 2018. And she has the results to prove it. “I’ve lost 45 pounds since last year, and my blood pressure has dropped,” says Wojciak, of Iowa City, Iowa. “I walk on average 10,000 steps a day, my diet is improved and I feel great.”

The challenge is back this year, with AARP Wellness Ambassador Denise Austin again encouraging participants to commit to walking at least 30 minutes a day for eight weeks, with a partner if possible. “I love this challenge because it gives you the chance to get together with your friends and do something healthy,” says Austin. “Motivation is the key to health and fitness.”

Last year, more than 82,000 people joined. Austin suggests that participants check in often with the Fit & Fun website, where they can track their progress using a new personal digital dashboard and be part of a virtual community sharing photos and encouragement. Each week, visitors to the Fit & Fun portal will find fresh videos, tips and inspiration to keep their healthy habit going

Participants will have a chance to win the grand prize, a spa weekend getaway for two. The challenge starts May 1 and runs through June 30.
